The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

I love gift giving. I love buying people gifts and seeing their reactions. So I love looking at gift guides and getting different ideas. I try to keep an eye for Christmas gifts throughout the year, and I try to give a mix of practical items and fun items they might not necessarily buy for themselves, especially if they aren’t giving me ideas (lol).

Before I get into the specific suggestions, I’m going to do a shameless plug. Check out your local craft shows! They are abundant this time of year and often are a fundraiser for other organizations (like the one I’m planning and will be a vendor at for my volunteer fire department). So, you’re supporting a small/local business and typically a nonprofit.  Whenever I go to a craft show, I am always amazed by the quality and creativity of something. You never know what you might find!

(If you’re interested, here’s my Facebook page and my Instagram page.) (done with shameless plugs)

I also think that if you’re stuck on ideas and don’t want to give a gift card, Christmas ornaments are excellent gifts to give. For one, there is no shortage of variety. Any store with the exception of maybe grocery and beauty supply stores have some Christmas ornaments…and maybe those do as well. And everyone is a fan of something, even if it is their favorite snack or drink.

You also have your classic and plentiful options from Hallmark, Funko has ventured into ornaments like this cute combo from Elf (Funko: If we make it, they will come) (Also Funko - did you know you can Funko Yourself? I’d like to do Hufflepuff, but I’m waiting for the Star Wars options!), and craft shows of course will have plenty. I make beaded snowflakes. Etsy is also full of customizable options - I have bought several from a woman I went to high school with; you can check her store out here. But what I really like about giving ornaments is I feel like they really stand out, and that is why I love getting ornaments. I always remember who gave them to me, and I just love that moment when I’m decorating the tree. My mom has always given my brothers and me an ornament every year (the majority handmade!), and I think it is a wonderful tradition.

But now, the gift guide.

Comfort and Cozy

1. Vera Bradley Throw Blanket: These are some of the coziest blankets out there. I bought one for my dorm when I began college back in 2010, and it is still super cozy. I’ve also given them as gifts. The typical Vera prints are available, but they also have lines for different Disney properties, NFL teams, and collegiate teams. You can also find even better sales through their outlet. Pricing varies from $30 - $100.

One of my own plush Vera blankets - featuring other items from the Vera Bradley x Star Wars collection

2. Ocoopa HotPal Rechargeable Hand Warmers: A sleek, pocket-sized hand warmer for $16.73 (On sale), this popular device has three heat settings and a rechargeable battery that lets it last for hours and, with its USB-C port, you can use to charge devices (which would be pretty useful if you’re at a sporting event or you’re hunting)

3. Carhartt Knit Cuffed Beanie: There is a reason why you see Carhartt beanies everywhere and why so many who work in the elements wear Carhartt brands. Carhartt prides itself on its durability, and hell, the page even says “Keeping hardworking heads warm since 1987.” It is a well-made, warm, durable hat - what else could you want from a beanie? I also love that there are so many color options - 16, actually. There’s a style for everyone. $19.99 update: they also have carhartt beanies lined with satin to protect your hair! $24.99

4. Columbia Socks - Mens, Womens: It is jokingly a weird-but-true sign of adulthood when you look forward to getting socks, but here we are. No one likes cold or sweaty feet. And Columbia knows it. I linked a four pack of men’s moisture control socks and a two pack of women’s wool socks just as two examples of the many style of socks Columbia offers. Pricing varies from $13 - 18.

5. Squishmallows: I truly do not understand why Squishmallow doesn’t make pillows without faces of the Squishmallow material, but if the stuffed animal aspect of the Squishmallow makes you not want one, you’re missing out. These are comfiest pillows that aren’t advertised per se as pillows. I tried so many different kinds of pillows to support my back after my SCS implant surgery, and squishmallows were the only ones that gave relief (Attaching wires to your spine hurts for a while). A 14 inch Squishmallow is $19.99.

6. Nodpod Gentle Pressure Sleep Mask: Advertised as a “weighted blanket for your eyes,” it also boasts to be “like a hug for your head” and being  the only sleep mask built for side sleepers. But not only does it provide you with a calming effect as you try to sleep, it also is light blocking which definitely can impact your quality of sleep. It is also freezer-friendly. $34.00

7. 40 Pack Satin Silk Scrunchies: Trends love a comeback, and scrunchies are having a moment. The satin-silk material creates less tension, friction, and breakage for hair, making this stocking stuffer a win against ponytail pain. The numerous color options is just another plus! $6.74

Convenience and Practical

8. HOTO 24 in 1 Multi Bit Mini Screwdriver You never know when you might need a screwdriver, right? If you have someone on your list who likes to always be prepared, this mini screwdriver might be just the ticket. Featuring 12 double-ended bits, this is prime for tiny screws for items such as glasses, electronics, toys, etc. $14.95

9. Gerber Gear Suspension Multitool 15-in-1: Again, you never know what you might need! This multi tool offers 15 functions with flat headed drivers, pliers, wire strippers, blades, bottle and can openers, wire cutters, awl, and more. It’s slim and has a pocket clip in order to secure it to a pocket or belt. $34.99

10. Collapsible Trunk Organizer: Not only do I have this, but I’ve given this as a gift. Driving a sedan, I love having an actual enclosed trunk, but this organizer is perfect to keep things, well, organized. No more worrying about groceries rolling all the way to the back of my trunk! You can also hook it to keep the organizer secure but you don’t have to. And it’s portable enough that it isn’t an issue if you have to pull it out and place it on the back seat. $16.98

11. HULISEN Clear Crossbody Bag Stadium Approved: Many stadiums and arenas have strict rules for what kind of bags you can bring in. This is the perfect size for that kind of need! It is easy for items such as wallet, keys, phone, cosmetics, etc. $13.48

12. Original Cup Cozy Pillow: This might have cozy in the name, but it’s practicality can’t be denied. It’s a versatile caddy that offers you extra space and security when you just don’t have a spot to put something like your drink. While many use it for lounging at home, others say it’s exactly what they need while traveling or even at the beach. This one features five holes, so you can keep drinks, remotes, and your phone handy. $34.99

Mind-Stimulating

13. Stained Glass Treat of Life Puzzle for Adults - 1000 Pieces: Puzzles are as classic as you can get when it comes to engaging your mind, and this beautiful mosaic puzzle looks to be a definite challenge. Reviewers state that while it is difficult, it is also a relaxing and satisfying build $13.59

14. Lego Flower Bouquet: Legos aren’t just for kids! With more than 20,000 5-star reviews on Amazon, the Lego bouquet has become a classic. People are taking their Lego hobby through adulthood, and Lego has noticed. Many find that Lego building, while providing a challenge, can also be a stress reliever. Plus, some are keeping their Lego displays up as fun room decor! $37.99

15. Cards Against Humanity: “A party game for horrible people” is a fantastic game for an adult crowd. It’s entertaining and can be a great addition for a party or night in. It also, arguably, provides an opportunity for people to get creative with their answers! $29.99

Note: Again, this isn’t a game for kids or a potentially easily offended crowd. If that’s the case, Apples to Apples is a great alternative!

16. National Geographic Weird But True: These books are aimed at kiddos, but the various subjects can reach a large audience! (Like the Star Wars one I own that was pretty neat). Books like these help foster creativity and learning, and there are currently 27 books in the series with topics such as animals, anatomy, US Government, Disney, and more. Prices from $6 - 12.

Feel Good

17. LifeAround2Angels Bath Bombs Gift Set: Bath bombs add a little bit of a spa experience, making these a great gift to give some added relaxation. 18. JoJowell Shower Steamers Aromatherapy - 18 Pack: We have our bath bombs, but for those with walk-in showers (or just don’t like baths), shower steamers can add a little luxury! This batch has six different scents: grapefruit, watermelon, tangerine, eucalyptus, lavender, and mint. So there’s definitely variety and what also stood out me when looking at reviews how many people stated they continually buy this. $19.99

19. Breathing Buddha Meditation Tool: The benefits of meditation are plentiful, but a lot of people don’t know where to start. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced meditator, the Breathing Buddha visually guides your breathing to help foster mindfulness by calming and focusing your mind. $21.95

20. Shiatsu Neck and Back Massager with Soothing Heat, Nekteck Electric Deep Tissue: We all get a little tense every now and then. It offers three different speeds, eight kneading options, and also provides heat. $39.99

21. Kindle Paperwhite: I’ve shared my feelings on the Paperwhite known before, but this could be the gift to get the reader in your life. It’s not just an e-reader, it is a library that can fit in your hand or in your bag, because this e-reader also syncs with library apps such as Libby. Many enjoy the Paperwhite as it is only an e-reader, meaning distraction-free. Amazon also boasts that this is their fastest Kindle yet, and it also has the celebrated features of being waterproof, a charge that can last up to 12 weeks, lighting that adjusts to day or night, and more. $129.99
